When Jason first woke up in his hospital room, Robin's was the first face he saw. Robin quickly called for help, however, and told the Quartermaines that their son had finally come out of his coma -- but he hadn't. Jason was strange, different, and didn't seem to remember any of them. Dr. Tony Jones examined Jason and determined he had suffered irreparable brain damage in the accident. This damage affected his memory, his ability to relate to others, and his ability to handle emotions. Dr. Jones gave the Quartermaines good advice on what to expect (and what not to expect) from Jason, but it was advice they refused to adhere to.
From the beginning, the Quartermaines expected Jason to return to the life he had led before. He, on the other hand, hated the hospital, and hated the Quartermaine mansion more. Keesha, devastated by the accident and clinging to the boy she loved, drove Jason up a wall and, eventually, drove him away. The Quartermaines began to realize that Jason would never be able to return to his former potential, and in a rare moment of family spirit and generosity, Ned convinced each member of the family to place one share of ELQ stock in a trust for Jason, thus ensuring him a means to live on.
Nevertheless, the Quartermaines, with the best of intentions, tried to control Jason's life. When he left the house and took a family car, Edward called the police and had him returned home. He trashed "his" room, bought a motorcycle and rode it through the living room and, one day, walked out the door. It was Sonny Corinthos that he turned to, who accepted him and gave him the kind of help he wanted: no questions, no demands, no comparisons to someone he no longer was. Calling himself Jason Morgan, he began working for Sonny, first as a valet, then as a messenger.
Robin, mourning Stone, met Jason again at the bridge she and Stone had gone to, the one from which he'd bungee jumped, and where she and Sonny had scattered his ashes. From the beginning, Robin treated Jason as Sonny did, with no expectations, and he found himself drawn to her. When Robin confessed that she'd once had a crush on Jason Quartermaine, but that he'd never done anything about it, Jason Morgan replied: "That's the first thing I've heard that he didn't do right." They spent more and more time together. "The girl with no future and the boy with no past", Robin and Jason found that they looked at time in much the same way, and lived in the present.
Although Jason said he understood the risks involved in having sex with someone who was HIV positive and was ready, Robin told him she wasn't. Her feelings for Stone were too recent, and more to the point, she was too afraid of infecting Jason to able to relax in his arms. Jason accepted her decision, but began a purely sexual relationship with Port Charles newcomer and troublemaker, Carly Roberts. Jason stressed to Carly that Robin was his first priority, and even though she herself had designs on Dr. Tony Jones, a girl as selfish as Carly never liked to be #2, and seemed sure to make trouble sooner or later.
Sonny had promised Robin that he would keep Jason out of the dangerous side of his business, and he stuck to that promise -- until Lily, Sonny's wife, was killed in a car bomb meant for Sonny and Brenda. Sonny, devastated with grief, was unable to keep control of himself or his business, and Jason stepped in as his right hand.
At the Second Annual Nurses' Ball, Robin told all of Port Charles that she was HIV positive. Grieving for Stone, and for her own lost future, Robin broke down on stage. Jason appeared out of the crowd and, without saying a word, climbed up to the stage, picked Robin up in his arms, and carried her away. This was a defining moment in their relationship. Jason went to the Nurses' Ball, a place he had no desire to be, for Robin -- for the first time, she truly knew how much she meant to him. The Quartermaines, who had perhaps been consoling themselves that it was love Jason had rejected, not them personally, learned how wrong they'd been. And Carly, in her typical selfish way, was furious with Jason for, she believed, putting her at risk. Carly, jealous and infuriated, blew up at Jason for sleeping with both her and someone who had HIV, and was only mollified when he told her he hadn't had sex with Robin. However, Jason told Carly he wasn't interested in seeing her anymore.
Robin would soon leave to attend Yale. She was sorry to leave Jason, Sonny, and Mac, but having deferred her attendance the year before, when Stone was dying, she felt it was time to go. Robin wanted to be a doctor, and though she knew that she might not live long enough to achieve all of her goals, she wanted to live what life she had to the fullest of her abilities.
Jason and Robin left Port Charles, and spent a magical weekend at a beach house in Montauk. Although Robin would still not risk the chance of infecting Jason, they made love safely.
On the night before Robin left for Yale, Carly threatened Jason that she was going to tell Robin all about their relationship -- which he beat her to, confessing everything. Robin was upset that Jason had been with another woman, but felt too guilty to blame him -- saying, if only she could have sex with him, he wouldn't have needed to turn elsewhere. Jason reassured her that he hadn't "needed" to, and would never do so again.
When the moment of their parting finally came, Jason told Robin he loved her for the first time and rode off on his motorcycle, leaving Robin to whisper, "I love you too."
Jason resumed working for Sonny. He missed Robin more than he could almost stand. He said it felt like an ache inside him, one that wouldn't go away, and he lived for the weekends and holidays that brought her home. Their love only grew stronger, and Robin helped Jason to care for those around him. With her subtle help, he developed a close relationship with Emily Quartermaine, and continued to visit his grandmother, Lila. Jason grew to accept Monica, and although he would never think of her as his mother, he felt a responsibility for her well-being. Alan was another story. Far less willing to accept that his favorite son was gone forever, Alan could only think of blaming Sonny, and AJ, for the man Jason had become.
In one area, however, Alan had Jason's respect. As Robin's doctor, Alan brought a new treatment to her attention, one that was showing a lot of success in treating, though not curing, HIV and AIDS. Referred to as the protocol, this "cocktail" of protease inhibitors and other drugs had shown a great deal of promise in stopping the progress of HIV. Although it was no cure, this protocol could, theoretically, provide Robin (along with many others) years and years of healthy life -- hopefully, enough time to develop a cure.
Robin, who at this point was not sick and still in some subconscious denial of her HIV infection, resisted the protocol at first. She dreaded becoming a "sick" person, someone who had to take dozens of pills every day. Jason convinced her, with his love, that she owed it to herself, to him, and to everyone else that loved her to stay alive. And although Robin at first agreed to begin the protocol for his sake, he showed her that she should, ultimately, do it for herself. The only arguement left was over who should pay for the treatment, Jason or Sonny, who was equally thrilled with her decision.
Monica Quartermaine, tragically, had an affair with GH newcomer Dr. Pierce Dorman. Although she reconciled with Alan and called off the affair, Dorman vowed revenge and sued her for sexual harassment. THough her family stood by her and counter-sued, Monica lost the suit and her job. At the same time, more and more drugs began appearing on the streets of Port Charles. Detective Taggart, a PC police officer with an attitude, seemed determined to pin these drug shipments on Sonny. It became clear, especially to Jason and Sonny, that all-around scum Pierce Dorman was behind the drugs. Determined to discover Dorman's supplier, Sonny kept his suspicions to himself. Dorman was then found murdered in the GH morgue. Jason was originally considered a suspect, but the Port Charles police department was much more determined to pin his murder on Sonny. Most of Port Charles was at one point or other a suspect, including Monica, Emily, Alan, and Dorman's girlfriend, Rebecca. In reality, as Jason and Sonny had long since figured out, Dorman's death was a professional hit.
During this time, Robin returned home for the Third Annual Nurses' Ball. It was a much more hopeful Robin Scorpio who spoke before Port Charles of her future, and although she had to return to school for finals, she promised Jason, Sonny, and Uncle Mac that she would be home soon for the summer.
The police came up with evidence that seemed to prove Brenda had killed Pierce Dorman, and she was arrested. Desperate, Sonny broke her out of jail and the two of them went on the run while Jason was arrested for his part of the break-out. Robin returned home for the summer to find Jason in jail, though with Mac's help he was soon released. Jason, unable to fully devote his attention to Robin, was able to identify Dorman's killer by sight and, calling him the Tin Man (because of small origami made of tin foil he left behind), Brenda and Sonny set off on his trail.
Robin and Jason were still very much in love, and spoke of their future. Jason told her that he wanted to spend the rest of his life with her, sounding suspiciously on the verge of a proposal. As they danced in Mac's living room, the Tin Man watched from outside. When the first shot was fired, Jason pushed Robin out of the way and took the second bullet himself. Although she wasn't seriously injured, Robin was bleeding from cuts on her arms, and knew she couldn't touch Jason for fear of infecting him. Knowing him to be seriously injured, she called for help and tried to keep him conscious.
Taken to GH, Jason was operated on and saved. Sonny and Brenda, though out of touch, found the Tin Min and prepared to confront him. Robin was badly shook up by the ordeal, and begged Jason to leave his dangerous life behind. She received notification that she had been accepted to study at the Sorbonne, in Paris, for a year, but initially rejected the idea. When Jason refused to consider leaving the organization, Robin turned to Sonny for help. Telling him she couldn't stand to lose someone else she loved, Robin begged Sonny to fire Jason. When Sonny resisted, she reminded him of his promise to Stone to take care of her, and Sonny relented.
Jason was infuriated when Sonny told him he was fired, and knew Robin was to blame. They fought bitterly, Jason guessing correctly her motives and methods, and Robin not understanding his refusal to consider another, safer way of life. Robin told Jason that she couldn't continue to live in fear of losing him, and they broke up. Knowing distance to be the best, she decided to attend the Sorbonne and made plans to leave the next day. Jason was devastated at this news, and asked her not to go. Robin, who asked him to come with her though she already knew his answer would be no, remained sure of her decision.
Sonny' father, Mike, came to visit Jason and learned of Robin's imminent departure. He advised Jason to talk to Robin and let her know that he accepted her decision to leave, or she would come to feel that she had run away. Knowing Mike to be speaking from experience and knowing him to be right, Jason convinced Monica and Alan to have him released from GH and went to find Robin. They met on the bridge, and said a last goodbye.
Sonny and Brenda discovered that the Tin Man worked for Rivera, Lily's father. Although Rivera planned to take his revenge out on Sonny by killing both him and Brenda, with the help of Jax and Detective V. Ardanowski, Rivera was defeated and the Tin Man stopped. Sonny and Brenda returned home to plan their wedding, planning, as well, to leave town and disappear into safety as soon as it was over. Sonny offered the organization to Jason, and he accepted it.
The Tin Man returned, killing a trusted bodyguard and coming dangerously to killing Sonny as well before meeting his fate at Sonny's hands. Sonny was plagued by fears for Brenda's safety and the knowledge that, he felt, Lily's blood was already on his hands. The day of the wedding, he decided to keep Brenda safe by leaving her behind, and sent Jason to break the news to her that Sonny wasn't going to marry her, and considered their relationship over. Jason resisted, but respected Sonny's decision and went to the church. He found Brenda already at the altar, and was forced to tell her Sonny's message in front of her assembled guests. Though Brenda railed at him, slapping him and calling him a cold, unfeeling machine, Jason followed Sonny's instructions, took care of her, and saw to it that she believed Sonny a monster and never suspected the truth.
Jason reported back to Sonny and they said their goodbyes. Jason told Sonny that he'd changed his life, and Sonny replied, "You did the same for me" and left Port Charles for good. Jason returned to the penthouse and prepared to fight for the organization, and for his life. Brenda, with a lot of help from her friends, is trying to move on with her life without Sonny. She blames Jason for helping Sonny to desert her, which Jason accepts as best he can. During their last run-in, however, Brenda accused Jason of never loving Robin, and finally succeeded in chipping through his patience. Despite the animosity between them, Jason continued to protect Brenda.
Jason remained estranged from Alan and Monica, but he and AJ developed a friendship of sorts. Jason still considered Lila and Emily family, and visited them occasionally. At Emily's request, he even put in a timely appearance at the Quartermaine mansion on Thanksgiving and saved the entire family from being robbed. His friendship with Luke, and Mike, grew, and Luke and Jason remained partners in the club. As the pressure began to build on Jason, and the situation became more and more dangerous, he needed all the allies he could get.
Robin spent a lonely Thanksgiving dreaming of Port Charles, coming home, and Jason. She had begun to second-guess her decision to leave him, but still felt that they only way they could be happy together was if Jason agreed to leave the organization for her. Though she knew how unlikely a possibility that was, she could not deny her love for Jason and lit a candle of hope for their future.
A party at Luke's erupted in gunfire as Moreno made his first attempt on Jason's life. Jason was not hit, but one of his bodyguards, Pete, died, and Nikolas Cassdine was hit in the neck. Jason performed an emergency procedure on the spot, clearing Nikolas' airway, and saved the boy's life. Detectives Garcia and Taggart chose not to view the events that way, and arrested Jason on charges of assalt with a deadly weapon. While at the police station, Jason received a phone call threatening Robin. Justus Ward helped get Jason released quickly, and Jason sped off to Paris to ensure Robin's safety.
In Paris, Jason and Robin had a joyous reunion that turned bitter, when Robin once more begged Jason to leave the organization. Jason told her again that it wasn't possible, and Robin walked away. Jason returned to Port Charles, and Robin remained in Paris.
Back home in PC, a desperate Carly, panic-stricken over Tony's threat to sue for sole custody of their baby, lied and claimed Jason is the father of her baby. Devastated, Tony at first accused her of lying, but found himself unwillingly believing her graphic descriptions of the wild times she and Jason have shared. Carly moved into the penthouse with Jason, as much for a lack of anywhere else to stay as to make their story more believable. Jason agreed to go along with Carly's scheme, believing that it's wrong for Tony or AJ to try to take the baby away from Carly, its mother. He told Carly he would not be able to lie if anyone asked him point-blank if he was the baby's father. By a twist of fate, neither Tony nor AJ asked Jason that question directly, though AJ came close. AJ discovered that Jason Morgan is not the man who used to be his brother, and that the time has come for him to face up to that. It was a sad moment for them, the two men who are still brothers, but only by blood.
Port Charles was stunned by the news about Jason and Carly. Alan, desperate to make a connection to the son he loved so much, was actually overjoyed with the news that Jason is going to be a "father". he seems to think it will bring them closer, as a family. The rest of the Quartermaines were not quite as thrilled, with Emily and Monica disbelieving. Many PC residents have wondered how Robin will react to this news, though Jason and Carly seem to think she never has to find out, since the baby's true parentage (Tony or AJ) is bound to come out sooner or later anyhow.
Things seemed to be going well for Carly, though both Tony and AJ still insist the baby is theirs, and that they plan to sue for custody. She and Jason arranged for him to have power of attorney over her and the unborn child. But in the middle of the night, Carly woke up to discover herself bleeding. She tried to get to the phone for help, but collapsed. Luckily, Jason found her and rushed her to the hospital. Though the baby was not due for another four weeks, an emergency cesaerean delivery was performed, and Carly gave birth to a son. Both mother and child were in serious condition. Carly continued to bleed internally, and only Bobbie's insistence (and Jason's decision) for an alternate procedure prevented the doctor in charge from performing a hysterectomy on the still-unconscious Carly. The baby was doing even worse.
The doctors informed Jason that a flap meant to close a valve in the baby's heart had not closed, and that surgery was needed. Tony, still believing the baby could be his, opposed the surgery, but with Monica's advice, Jason decided to go ahead, and the baby came out of surgery fine. Carly also began to recover, but was horrified when she learned that her baby had almost died. Upon being told that they were currently referring to her son as "Baby Boy Roberts", Carly begged Jason to give the baby his name, Morgan, since Roberts is a fake name. Jason agreed, hesitantly. Blaming herself for the baby's perilous condition, Carly became hysterical when Jason took her to see him for the first time.
In the meantime, Tony ordered a blood test to determine paternity, and was shocked to discover that he is not the baby's father. AJ, in a mistake only a soap opera character could make, found out that the baby and Jason have the same blood type, and concluded that Jason therefore had to be the baby's father. All of Port Charles is now convinced that the baby is Jason's, with only Carly and Jason, and later, Robin, knowing the truth.
Unknowing of all these circumstances, Robin called Brenda to wish her a happy new year. Although somewhat cheered by the call, Brenda his her problems from Robin and began to slip back again. Jax, thinking Robin could provide Brenda with the love and support she needs, flew to Paris to convince Robin to come back with him to Port Charles. Robin came, but found Brenda changed and sick. Wanting to hurt Jason, Brenda told Robin about Carly and the baby, and went so far as to claim that Jason had come on to her, instead of the other way around. Distraught by Brenda's lies, Robin went to find Jason.
In the meantime, Carly begged Jason to help her get out of town. Weak and suffering from post-partum depression, Carly felt she needed a break to regain her strength before she could begin taking care of the baby. Jason agreed to help her, and she left. Jason brought the baby home to the penthouse to find Robin waiting for him there. Jason told Robin the whole truth, which Robin reassured him she had never doubted-- she knew he had never been unfaithful to her. Still, when he told her that AJ was the baby's father, Robin tried to convince him that he should tell the truth and stop keeping Carly's secrets. Jason listened to what Robin had to say, but still felt he couldn't go back on his promise to Carly. They parted ways with nothing resolved, and an awkwardness regarding where they stand with each other, as Robin went off to help Jax and Brenda.
Jason grew more and more attached to the baby. The Quartermaines devised a half-baked plot to lure Jason over to the mansion for Emily's birthday and steal the baby from him. Though this plan of course failed, the effects have been far-reaching. Justus, disgusted by Edward's behavior, quit ELQ and decided to go to work for Jason. Emily ran away to Jason's, and though she has returned home, the chances of her forgiving Alan, Edward, and especially AJ seem slim. Jason is only more convinced that he needs to keep the baby away from the Quartermaines-- and AJ.
This paltry attempt at kidnapping, plus a shootout the baby was almost present for, made Jason concerned about the baby's future. Although he wanted to wait for Carly's return, it seemed time for the baby to have a name. With Bobbie and Mike's advice, Jason made arrangements for the baby to be baptised at Queen of Angels, Sonny's church, with Mike and Emily as godparents. Unfortunately, the Quartermaines learned of the impending baptism and stormed the church. Jason was only convinced to allow them to stay by first Lila, and then Robin.
Another unexpected guest appeared at the baptism: Moreno, Jason's rival. Moreno claimed his presence was a gesture of goodwill in the interests of the peace proposal Jason had made. As the ceremony continued, Jason shocked everyone by announcing that the baby would be named Michael, for Sonny. Just as the baptism was concluding, Carly entered the church. There and at the reception given later at the penthouse, she still seems reluctant to have anything to do with her baby.
Robin found herself confused about her place in Jason's new life. She attended the baptism and the subsequent reception afterward, but the distance between the two of them seems to grow every day. While at the reception, Robin was unexpectedly confronted by Moreno, who remembered her mother and stepfather, Anna and Duke. Moreno upset Robin by recalling how Duke had died trying to leave the organization, but she kept herself very well in control. Jason informed Moreno that he should consider Robin's safety "not up for negotiation".
Carly was still nervous about touching her son, Michael, but with Bobbie's help, she finally overcame her fears. At the same time, Carly confessed to being Caroline Bensen, Bobbie's long-lost daughter. Angry and hurt, Bobbie refused to have any relationship with her daughter. Carly and Michael stayed at the penthouse, and Jason grew closer to them both every day.
Robin found herself still drawn to Jason, no matter the many obstacles that stand in their way. On Valentine's Day, they met at the bridge and Robin kissed Jason. However, she soon realized once again that they can't be together, and Jason agreed. As a result, Robin seems to find herself at loose ends much of the time, and readily agreed to help Emily help Nikolas Cassadine to recover his speech. When Emily was forbidden to visit Nikolas anymore by the Quartermaines, Robin presented herself to Nikolas as a substitute. Although Stefan discouraged her presence at Windermere, Robin was not daunted and she and Nikolas hit it off.
Jason found himself in serious danger when he learned that Jax is undermining his influence with his men on the docks. With ELQ eager to begin renovating the docks, and Jason just as eager to retain control, the situation grew from tense to worse. Jason set out for a meeting-- one he wasn't sure he'd leave alive. In preparation, he revised his will (making a provision for Carly) and visited Mike Corbin, saying, "If the worst happens, tell Robin I love her and I'm sorry."
Meanwhile, Robin arrived at the penthouse, confronted by a hostile Carly. Provoked, Robin admitted that she intended to tell AJ the truth about baby Michael. Carly accused Robin of keeping Jason on a string, and Robin responded by pointing out that Carly lives in a world of lies and deception. Still, Robin decided not to go to AJ with the truth, and to work harder to stay out of Jason's life.
Jason met with his men and stood his ground, surviving a potentially life-threatening situation. Later, Robin and Jason met on the bridge and admitted their continuing love for one another, but reaffirmed their decision to stay apart. To distract herself, Robin spent more time with Nikolas. She was able to help him acheive a break-through with his speech. Nikolas expressed his gratitude to Robin and her friendship, which pleased Stefan not at all. Stefan went so far as to offer Robin money to stay away from Nikolas, which she of course refused. Helena Cassadine made overtures of so-called friendship to Robin, but she was rebuffed.
Carly grew more and more confident with Michael, and decided to take him out for the day, by herself. In the lobby of the Port Charles Hotel, Carly was told that she had a phone call, and turned her back on baby Michael for a moment-- to find him gone when she returned. Frantic with worry, Jason and Carly began searching for him, to no avail. The Quartermaines and Tony were primary suspects, but were both cleared of guilt-- in Tony's case, mistakenly so, as we learned that Tony had in fact kidnapped baby Michael, and had him stashed at Mercy Hospital, under false pretenses. Jason and Carly were advised by the police to keep Michael's kidnapping secret for the time being. Jason met with Robin on the bridge and told her, just as Edward was preparing to g on TV and offer a huge reward for information leading to Michael's return. But Edward's plea returned nothing but false leads.
Robin, already with the beginnings of a cold, was having lunch with Nikolas in the park one afternoon when Tony and Lucas came by. Tony asked Robin and Nikolas to keep an eye on Lucas while he ran some errands-- primarily, so he could arrange to bring Michael home from Mercy Hospital. When Tony returned to pick Lucas up, he dropped a grocery store receipt which Robin picked up-- stunned to discover that it was for such items as diapers and formula.
Robin followed Tony to the cabin and confronted him about Michael. Not only was she unable to persuade him to return the baby, she was taken hostage herself, to prevent her telling anyone of the baby's whereabouts. Additionally, Tony needed someone to look after Michael when he went out. Robin pleaded with Tony to let her go, telling him that she didn't have her HIV meds with her and could get sick. Tony promised to try to get her meds to her, but refused to let her go. Meanwhile, Robin's cough began to worsen. (March 23, 1998)
Upon returning to Port Charles, Brenda and Jax were the first to notice Robin's disappearance. Brenda instantly became alarmed when she realized Robin did not have her HIV medication with her, and began to panic. Despite Jax's advice, she immediately ran to Jason and confronted him with the news, also making it clear that she held him responsible for Robin's disappearance. Jason asked Brenda and Jax to give him twenty-four hours to go to Albany and find out if Moreno had Michael and Robin. They reluctantly agreed, as did Mac when he was told.
Tony left Robin at the cabin and tried to retrieve her HIV medication from the cottage, but was almost caught by V and fled the scene. He then attended a birthday party in his honor, as Robin's condition worsened. When he finally reached the cabin, all he had to offer her was aspirin-- despite the fact the she was developing non-AIDS related pneumonia.
Jason returned from Albany, having fought a war with Moreno only to discover that he didn't have Robin or Michael. He went to Brenda and asked her to remember who else Robin may have seen the day she disappeared. Brenda guessed that Robin may have seen Nikolas, and Jason went to Windermere. Stefan tried to prevent Jason from questioning Nikolas, but failed, and Nikolas was able to tell Jason about their encounter with Dr. Jones at the park.
Tony managed to acquire antibiotics that would help fight Robin's pneumonia, but got a flat tire on his way up to the cabin. Jason found his way there and broke down the door of the room Robin and Michael were being kept in. Jason held Michael in his arms, gazing at Robin, and said a heartfelt Hail Mary of thanks. He knew Robin's health was in danger, however, and was on the verge of getting both of them out of there when Tony returned.
A deranged Tony pulled a shotgun on Jason and demanded that he tie himself up and stay in the cabin with Robin while he, Tony, left with Michael. Jason refused, and wrested the gun away from Tony. Robin climbed out of bed and begged Jason not to kill him, and Jason agreed. He called his men in to watch over Tony, notified the police, and took Robin and Michael to the hospital. As he left, holding Robin in his arms, he asked Tony, "What do you think your chances are of living one minute longer than she does?"
Jason rushed Robin to the hospital, where GH intern Joe Scanlon was on hand to oversee Robin's initial care. Brenda, Jax, Mac, and Felicia were all overjoyed to see her, and horrified that Tony had caused her such pain. As Tony was taken away by Detective Taggert, Robin's health improved. She went back on the protocol, seemingly having suffered no setbacks. Jason was relieved to see her getting well, but decided it would be in Robin's best interests for him to stay away from her. Carly couldn't have been more thrilled with that news. Nikolas, on the other hand, was eager to visit Robin. His developing feelings for her were becoming more and more apparent.
Jason and Carly attended the Docks Renovation ceremony, along with the rest of Port Charles' finest. Jason indulged a whim of Carly's and bought her some expensive jewelry, which Carly took as a good sign. As the ceremony began to end, however, and Jax stood poised at the podium, Brenda spotted a sniper and dove to shove Jax out of the way, just as shots rang out. Brenda received a flesh wound and the sniper was killed by Mac, but no one else was hurt.
Jason was taken in for questioning by Taggert, on suspicion of having something to do with the assassination attempt. Carly overstepped her bounds and told Benny to call the union strike, which made Jason look guiltier. Jason, furious with Carly, told her never to get involved in his business again. While at the station, he sent Carly to see Robin, and make sure she was okay. Carly did as he asked, but promptly laid into Robin for bungling Michael's rescue and trying to run Jason's life.
Justus had Detective Taggert arrested for harrassing Jason. Placed in the same cell as Jason, Taggert tried to get Jason to offer him a bribe but failed. Jason was released first, a fact that aggravated the detective.
Nikolas met Sarah on the docks and told her their relationship had changed, and that he felt only friendship for her now. Angry, Sarah accused him of replacing her with Robin Scorpio. Nikolas denied this, but soon went to visit Robin in the hospital, bringing her a huge arrangement of flowers and a gift. Robin continued to get better, back on the protocol with no adverse affects.
Jason decided to accompany Carly to Florida, to settle her mother's things. Jason, Carly, and Michael spent time grower closer to each other, and Jason promised Carly he would always be there to take care of them. Carly read too much into his promise, and, when they returned to the penthouse, shocked Jason by climbing into his bed in the middle of the night. Jason told her in no uncertain terms that he did not want to have sex with her. Angry, Carly accused him of still being in love with Robin-- which Jason freely admitted to. He stressed to Carly, however, that he wouldn't sleep with her because he was familiar with Carly's grasping, deceitful ways with the men she got involved with, and didn't want Michael to be raised in that kind of environment. Carly apologized and Jason told her he wasn't angry. Later, when Carly went looking for him again in his room, she found he was gone.
At the hospital, Jason slipped into Robin's room and watched her sleep, a heart-wrenching look of longing on his face.
The next day, Nikolas came again to visit Robin. As they read French fairy tales, Nikolas again hinted to Robin of his feelings for her. They discussed her imminent release from the hospital, and made a lunch date. Robin received a subpeona to testify at Tony Jones' trial, which made her uneasy. Nikolas did his best to cheer her up before he left, however.
Down at the police station, Jason finished giving his deposition about the kidnapping. Ned was there, too. He walked up to Jason and started angling for a solution to the dock strike. Ned tried to bluff Jason, saying he was in a lose/lose situation. Jason informed him that the strike would stand until he got what he wanted, and when Ned was able to answer the demands of the dock workers, which Jason said resulted from the Quartermaines' attitude. Ned then changed topics and asked how Robin was doing. Jason admitted he only knew second-hand, and that it was in her best interest if no one knew how he felt about her. "Even Robin?" Ned asked.
As Nikolas left Robin's room, he bumped into Jason in the hallway. Nikolas thanked Jason for saving his life, and suggested he pay Robin a visit, then left. Jason lingered outside Robin's closed door and was about to leave when Robin herself came out. Although they talked for a few moments, Jason told Robin he couldn't stay to visit with her, and Robin left to get some exercise.
Later, Jason stood in the doorway of Robin's empty room, staring at the book and single red rose, both from Nikolas, on her bed.
The day of the trial arrived. Robin grew increasingly nervous, not willing to condemn Tony for his crimes. Dara informed Robin that she could be held in contempt of court if she refused to testify. Robin reluctantly took the stand as a hostile witness, but defended Tony, saying he considered taking Michael "the lesser of two evils", and was not responsible for his actions, considering his mental state at the time. Bobbie took the stand next, and expressed her disagreement with Robin's testimony, and her fear that Tony would steal Lucas, given the chance.
Robin's decision to defend Tony's actions was understood by Felicia, who took the stand as a character witness for Tony. mac and Brenda, though not thrilled with her decision, supported it fully. But Carly, frightened that Robin's testimony would set Tony free and eager as ever to try to bully Robin, let loose a vicious tirade at Robin-- little knowing that Jason listened in. Jason told Carly never to speak to Robin that way again, and when Carly continued to yell and whine, he informed her they were leaving. Bobbie stayed behind and told Robin she was equally displeased with Robin's testimony, though in a much less confrontational way that Carly had.
Carly and Jason returned to the penthouse, where Jason again told Carly not to take out her anger on Robin, and that doing so would be the one thing that would make him kick her out of the penthouse. When Carly questioned Jason's loyalty and love for Michael, Jason got angrier, and coldly told her never to do so again. Leaving, he went back to the courthouse to talk to Robin about her testimony. Though Jason couldn't quite see why Robin had done what she had, he didn't blame her, saying that it didn't matter, Dr. Jones would get what he deserved anyhow.
Everyone was shocked when, in court the next day, Alexis Davis announced she would be representing Tony-- at Helena's request, though no one knew that. Alexis began a defense based on custodial interference, not kidnapping-- in other words, that Tony felt he had some custodial right to Michael, and was simply interfering in Carly and Jason's custodial rights. Tony took the stand and made a compelling case for his innocence. Alexis then put Jason on the stand and tried to show he was an unfit father, but Dara (with Justus' help) was able to show just how much Jason loves and cares for Michael.
In the meantime, Jerry Jax worked behind the scenes to end the strike-- with Jason coming out the winner, for now. Suspicious, Jason told Justus to find out who was behind their windfall, not trusting it for a moment.
Helena had Lucky steal an incriminating document from Dara's office, one that makes it look as if improper communication has been taking place between Justus and Dara-- which it basically had been. Alexis showed this document to Dara, who was then forced to make a deal. The courtroom was shocked when Tony was found guilty of only custodial interference, and receiveed an extremely light sentence of a year of community service. Carly in particular lost control and lunged for Tony. Detective Taggert tried to stop her, but she grabbed his gun and shot Tony.
Monica and Bobbie worked feverishly to save Tony-- mostly to save Carly from murder charges. Carly was taken into custody immediately, as Mac, the new police commissioner, was determined to play everything by the book. Later, it was decided that Carly would be remanded to a psychiatric hospital for evaluation. Jason brought Michael to see her before she went.
In the meantime, Robin continued to spend time with Nikolas. While meeting him at the Outback, she was approached by an angry Sarah Webber. Sarah accused Robin of stealing her boyfriend. Robin tried to assure Sarah of her mistake, but Sarah would hear none of it and left when Nikolas arrived.
Robin was horrified at Tony's light sentence as well; she thought he should have been the one to receive psychiatric care. She visited Tony and begged him to promise to never try to steal Michael again, and Tony said he can't.
Robin had dinner at Wyndermere with Nikolas, who seemed even more enamored. He gave her a fencing lesson that led to an awkward moment between them. When next they met for lunch, Robin told Nikolas of Sarah's accusations, and asked what his intentions toward her are. Nikolas said he's not sure, but did not hide his interest. Robin warned him that her emotions are not free at the moment, and that she still loves Jason, though they can't be together, which Nikolas understood.
Robin went to the penthouse and was there when Jason returns. He was awkward with her as she offered her help in taking care of Michael. "I thought you wanted to stay away from me," he said. She told him this was different, and they said an awkward goodbye.
Jason headed to NYC for business, and, at the same time, Brenda did the as well. They ended up the sole passengers on the Quartermaine jet. An argument ensued, of course. Brenda accused Jason of using Michael to stay close to Robin, knowing Robin wouldn't be able to resist helping an innocent baby. Once again, she compared Jason to Sonny and told him he should stay away from Robin. Jason accused Brenda of doing Robin a disservice by comparing herself to Robin, and pointed out how they are nothing alike. As Brenda stormed off to tell the pilot to land, the plane encountered rocky turbulance.
Despite the pilot's best efforts, the Quartermaine jet went down in a lake and he did not survive. Brenda and Jason swam to land and, using a map, tried to find a road, without any success. Brenda slipped and fell, reinjuring her hip, and Jason was forced to carry her. The two survivors came to an agreement to put aside their differences and work together. Brenda talked to keep Jason awake, and listened to him talk about Michael. As they both became afraid that rescuse would not reach them in time, Brenda began to talk about Sonny.
Robin was spending time with Nikolas when she caught a newspaper headline detailing the Quartermaine plane crash. She rushed to the penthouse, Nik accompanying her for support. As Robin checked on Michael, Justus told Nikolas to get Robin away before the Quartermaines arrived.
Meanwhile, Edward Quartermaine obtained a court order giving him temporary custody of Michael. Monica agreed, feeling the baby was better off with them until Jason came home, and the two of them went to the penthouse with Dara and Detective Taggart in tow. Justus tried to stop Edward from taking the baby, but Taggart arrested him for contempt.
Bobbie, hearing the news of the plane's disappearance, went to break the news to Carly. In typical fashion, Carly panicked and thought only of what Jason's loss would mean to her and Michael. Bobbie reassured her that Jason would be found. Ned arrived, however, and broke the news that Edward had Michael, which infuriated Bobbie. She went directly over to the Quartermaine mansion and gave Monica a piece of her mind. Bobbie agreed that the baby was safe and cared for, and believed Monica when she stated that Michael would be returned to Jason if he was recovered. However, Bobbie pointed out that Carly was both Michael's mother and her daughter and that she would fight the Quartermaines for Carly's rights. Monica and Bobbie parted on unfriendly terms, to say the least.
Jax, frantic with worry, coordinated with Mac and Ned to search for Brenda and Jason. As the hours dragged by, Robin began to reproach herself for the actions of the past few months. She told Felicia of how wrong she had been to turn from Jason because she was afraid to live what life they had, and instead had chosen to simply wait to die...Calling herself a fool, Robin prayed she would get the chance to change things, and go back to Jason.
Luckily, Jax and his brother were able to find Brenda and Jason, and brought them back to safety. Jason refused treatment and went directly to the Quartermaine mansion to retrieve Michael. Their taking him seemed to have driven an even deeper wedge between them. Jason thanked Emily for taking care of Michael and took him to visit Carly. He then left for Puerto Rico, on business.
In the meantime, Robin had made some decisions. She told Brenda that she was going to offer herself to Jason completely. WHen Brenda correctly interpreted this to mean sex, she expressed concern, but Robin remained determined. She was planning to take every precaution possible, but couldn't deny that a risk still existed. Leaving Brenda, Robin paid a visit to Nikolas to clear the air between them, and to let him know of her decision to get back together with Jason. Nikolas was disappointed, but admitted Robin had been completely honest about her feelings and hoped they could stay friends. He asked Robin to attend the Masquerade Ball as his friend and guest, and she agreed. Finally, Robin went to the penthouse to see Jason, but discovered him still out of town. In the meantime, Brenda and Jax headed out to Malibu. While there, they recommitted to each other and decided to get married.
Robin returned to the penthouse, knowing Jason to be back from Puerto Rico. Entering his room while he slept, she stunned Jason by telling him that she wanted to get back together. Jason was even more shocked when Robin showed him the condoms she had brought, and told him that she wanted to have sex. Robin explained that she was still afraid to give him HIV, but that the risk was his to make, if he wanted. Jason made it clear to her that he had always wanted to, and they made love. Later, Robin explained that she had learned to accept his job, and that their acceptance of each other would keep them together.
When Michael woke, Jason went to feed him and Robin followed, getting the baby dressed. Jason heard a know on the door and, thinking it was Benny, answered-- only to find Sonny standing there. Sonny was overjoyed to see Robin and meet Michael, and Jason explained how events had unfolded to bring the baby into his life. Without Jason saying so, Sonny knew he wasn't Michael's biological father. Robin told Sonny of Brenda's breakdown, and made him promise not to go back to her now that she had found love and happiness with Jax. Sonny promised, but told Jason he had returned to Port Charles for a more serious reason; Carlos would be making his move against Jason soon.
Jason brought Michael to visit Carly and, during their visit, revealed to her that Robin had come back to him. Panic-stricken that her cushy situation might come to an end, Carly let loose a torrent of abuse against Robin. Jason cautioned her not to do that, and reassured her that she and Michael were still important to him, but that her loved Robin with all his heart. Carly acted mollified, but later asked Bobbie to take care of Michael, since she didn't want Robin to be around him-- ostensibly because of her HIV status. Bobbie disabused Carly of the notion that Michael was at any risk and then pointed out the heart of the matter: that Carly was in love with a man who was in love with someone else.
The Bacchanalia at Wyndermere promised to be an exciting event. Robin, accompanying Nikolas, gave Katherine her best wishes. Although Nikolas spent most of his time at the ball with Robin, he asked a nervous Emily for a dance that clearly she had been waiting for. Disaster struck the ball, however, when a distraught Katherine, having just discovered the secret of Laura and Stefan's past, fell from the parapet-- where Luke and Alexis had earlier loosened the railing, trying to kill Helena. Luke planted the incriminating dagger, which he'd used to loosen the railing, in Stefan's desk. Robin and Nikolas were the first to find Katherine, and she was rushed to GH. Robin called the penthouse and spoke to Sonny. Jason later joined her at the hospital, but left because Robin hadn't had a chance to tell Mac of their reunion yet. Later that evening, Katherine was declared dead. Stefan immediately accused Luke of being responsible, and Mac agreed to search Luke's-- with, of course, no success. When the incriminating dagger was found in Stefan's desk, Mac arrested Stefan for Katherine's murder.
Back at the penthouse, Sonny picked up the phone and heard Brenda's voice. When no one answered her hello, Brenda knew it was Sonny and drove straight over. Sonny finally admitted why he left Brenda at the altar, and Brenda said goodbye and went home to Jax, telling him everything and promising that Sonny was finally out of their lives. Jax took Brenda on a surprise trip on the yacht on which their first wedding had taken place.
Carly continued to harangue Jason about Robin, claiming that Michael would soon forget who his mother was. Jason refused to feed into her delusions, though he admitted to Robin that he couldn't blame Carly for being paranoid. Bobbie also expressed his misgivings to Jason, under the auspices of concern for Robin, lest she become to attached to Michael. Bobbie's warning about the difficulties the future may hold regarding Carly, Michael, and Robin living under one roof hit home, however. Jason asked Robin what she thought would happen, and Robin counseled that they simply wait and see what would happen, rather than worry about what could happen. Robin later attended Katherine's memorial service with Felicia and Mac, and tried to offer Nikolas what consolation she could.
Jason received a call from Sonny, saying that he had information regarding who Carlos is working with, and that he needed to see Jason right away. Jason decided to take Michael with him, which relieved Carly, since she didn't want him left with Robin. Jason promised Robin to be careful and headed down to see Sonny, who asked him how he plans to balance his responsibilities to Carly and Michael with his love for Robin. Sonny also confessed to Jason that he is miserable and that he still wants Brenda, but knows he can't have her.
Jason remained in contact with Carly to reassure her about Michael's well-being, though she had no idea where he was calling from, but didn't call Robin since he knew she'd understand the importance of keeping Sonny's location secret. When AJ wanted to find Jason regarding the docks renovation, he first went to Robin to find out where he was. Robin, who was meeting Nikolas for lunch, claimed to have no idea as to Jason's whereabouts, though in fact she is the only one in Port Charles who does know them. AJ next went to visit Carly and asked her. To make herself feel important, Carly pretended to know where Jason was, and told AJ she just wasn't allowed to tell.
In the meantime, Sonny received word that Carlos' partner is none other than Jerry Jax. Monica approached Robin and asked her to act as a mentor to Emily, who seemed to be going through a rough time. Robin asked Emily to join her at Brenda's photo shoot in New Yok City. Brenda asked the photographer to take some pictures of Emily, who was thrilled. Tom, the photographer, seemed pleasantly surprised at how well Emily photographed.
Carly let loose a tirade on Bobbie for talking to Jason about the future difficulties he may encounter balancing Robin, Michael, and herself against each other. Offended, Bobbie chastised Carly for planning to use Michael to get what she wants from Jason, and warned her that if she continues in this way, a people may begin to believe that Michael doesn't belong with his mother. AJ paid Carly another visit, dropping a hint that Jason and Robin might plan to keep her locked up forever. Soon after, Carly called Robin and asked her where Jason and taken Micheal. When Robin reassured her that Michael was in good hands, Carly let loose her usual venom, accusing Robin of not caring whether Jason lived or died. Robin brushed her insults aside and left. Later, Carly told a psychiatrist that she plans to do whatever it takes to hold on to Jason and Michael.
Robin went to a Nurses' Ball rehearsal, where she was scheduled to work with Alan. When he was a no-show, she ran into Brenda and confessed how much she worries for Jason's safety. Robin soon found herself reassuring Uncle Mac, however, who was not happy to hear of Jason and Robin's reunion. Felicia defended Robin's decision, however, and Mac found himself unable to influence Robin's decision.
The Nurses' Ball began well, with a performance from Lucky, Liz, Dara, and Taggert. Robin went to the ball with Mac and Felicia, since there was still no sign of Jason. She and Alan performed "Someone to Watch Over Me", and when a drugged-out Alan lost his place and lost his cool on stage, Ned stepped in to finish the song with Robin. Later, Brenda performed in an ensemble piece, "Big Spender". Just as the number finished, Brenda looked up to see Sonny, along with Jason, enter the room. Although initially startled, Brenda refused to let Sonny's presence affect her and ignored him. Robin went to sit at Jason's table, and gave a moving speech as part of a special tribute to AIDS and HIV positive men and women. Later, she performed a medley of "Thank Goodness for Little Girls" and "Girls Just Want to Have Fun" with Maxie, Karen, Serena, Emily, Edward, Scotty, and Mac.
Tony Jones took center stage and delivered a tirade against those he called "hypocrites" sitting in the audience, directing his venom at Jax, Stefan, the Quartermaines, and Jason. Robin, angry, not only stood up for Jason but ordered Tony to take his hatred elsewhere. Leaving the stage, Tony paused long enough to make a filthy comment about Bobbie, and was rewarded by a fist in his face from Jerry Jax.
Jason broke up a fight between Lucky and Nikolas, and shared a few brief moments on the terrace with Robin before being hassled by Taggert, prompting them to return inside. As the Ball came to a close (complete with the traditional underwear-only-clad Lucy in the chorus line), a body was discovered hanging above the stage, later revealed to be one of the interns, Jake.
Jason took Robin to the bridge, where they shared some romantic moments and talked about the future. Robin encouraged Jason to spend more time doing what makes him happy and what he loves. Meanwhile, Jax paid Sonny a visit and offered hima blank check to ge out of town and leave Brenda alone. Sonny refused, but informed Jax that it was not Brenda that brought him back to PC, but brother Jerry. When Jason and Robin returned to the penthouse, Sonny offered to fill Robin in on the situation and suggested that she may be placing herself in too much danger by staying with Jason and Sonny. Robin reassured him that she did not need to know their business and trusted them to take care of her. When Sonny swore that Robin would be the one thing in his life he'd keep clean, Robin reassured him that he was a good person, and not "dirty", not someone she needed to be protected from.
Jason took Sonny and Robin to the docks to see the renovation progress, and there stumbled upon Karen and Joe sharing a private moment. Sonny and Karen found themselves facing their past, and tempers flared. When Joe attacked Sonny, Jason pulled a gun, shocking Robin and scaring Karen and Joe. Karen and Sonny then talked and came to a peace about their sordid history, and parted on settled terms. Leaving the docks later, Sonny remembered how he had first met Brenda there. Meanwhile, Jax came to the realization that Sonny was telling the truth about brother Jerry, and Brenda comforted him. Jax was disappointed, however, when he confronted Jerry and his brother remained unrepentant. Later, we saw Jerry set up a bomb in a warehouse on the docks.
Stefan paid a visit to the penthouse, looking for Robin. When he found only Sonny there, he asked him to keep Robin away from Nikolas. Sonny refused, saying Robin was free to spend time with whomever she chose and that if Stefan wanted to separate them, he's best talk to Nikolas. Stefan related the incident to Nikolas, who refused to stop seeing Robin. Stefan acknowledged his right to do so, and simply asked him to be careful.
Jax brought a suitcase full of money down to the warehouse where Sonny was meeting Benny and asked Sonny for his assistance in paying off Jerry's loan. Sonny told Jax there was nothing he could do for him and the two began to argue when they realized there was a fire in the warehouse. Jax attempted to smash the window open, but Sonny informed him the glass was bulletproof. Outside, Mac had to restrain Jason from rushing in to save Sonny as Robin called Brenda to let her know Jax was trapped inside. Meanwhile, Jerry rescued Lucas from the building and Bobbie rushed him to the hospital to be checked out, though he seemed fine-- no thanks to Tony, who had lured Lucas down to the docks to play, violating the restraining order. Jason assured Jerry that he would pay if Sonny was hurt, and Jerry replied that if Jax was hurt as well, what happened to him didn't much matter.
When told that there was no hope of survival for Sonny or Jax, Jason tried to get Brenda to go home with Robin. Though Brenda listlessly agreed eventually, before the three of them could go, two figures were seen emerging from the ashes. Brenda ran straight to Jax, as Sonny watched. Later, at the penthouse, Sonny commented to Robin how he'd once "had it all", but lost it. As Jason and Robin made some breakfast, Sonny, alone with baby Michael, told him to never take for granted that he had people who loved him.
Edward paid Carly a visit, hoping to undermine her faith in Jason, and informed her that her hearing had been moved up to that week. When Carly became convinced her going home was a foregone conclusion, Jason tried to caution her but his words fell on deaf ears. Carly told Bobbie of her imminent homecoming, and rhapsodized about how she, Michael, and Jason would be "one happy family". When Bobbie tried to remind her daughter of the love Jason has for Robin, Carly made up a story about Jason reassuring her that Robin wouldn't stand in their way.
Meanwhile, Robin confessed to Brenda that she worried about Carly forcing Jason to choose between her and Michael. Brenda advised her to fight for Jason, but Robin pointed out that if she were the cause of his losing Michael, neither she nor Jason would be happy. Later, Jason told Robin of his visit with Carly and asked how she felt about Carly coming home. Robin told him, "As long as we're together, it's okay."
Carly then received a disturbing visit from Tony. She was more distraught when her doctor stated his doubt that she would be going home anytime soon. Desperate, Carly decided on a plan of action. When the orderly came in to check on her, he found Carly singing to her pillow, calling it "Michael".
Sonny said his goodbyes around Port Charles, including a stop at Luke's. On the docks, he saw Brenda waiting, but did not approach her. Just then, Jax arrived and they left, leaving Sonny alone with the memory of how happy Brenda was with him. Back at the penthouse, Sonny spent a few moments with Michael, think of the child he'd lost and talking about what it had been like that day, seeing Robin standing there, holding him. Jason, Robin, and Sonny said a tearful goodbye, and Sonny left Port Charles once more, as he'd left it-- alone.
Jason and Justus arrived at the mental hospital, court order in hand, to pick Carly up. The doctor refused, however, saying that Carly had suffered a breakdown. Bobbie paid her daughter a visit, and when Carly called her "Virginia" and reacted calmly to comments about Jason and Robin, Bobbie believed her to have lost touch with reality. Jason knew Carly was faking, but couldn't get in to see her to tell her to stop it. Justus confessed to Jason that with Carly's newest trick, they no longer had a way to get her out. Carly managed to fool Bobbie and three psychiatrists, and was therefore going to be sent to a mental facility for the criminally insane, unable to receive visitors for two months, unable to see Michael the whole time she was there. Jason, furious with Carly, let her know exactly what she'd done. In typical fashion, Carly wept and apologized, and though Jason informed her that sorry wouldn't get her out of this, he still promised to work towards her coming home some day. Carly left, and Jason went home to tell Michael why his mother wasn't coming home.
Jason went to the Quartermaine mansion and issued a threat to Edward and AJ: no more attempts to undermine Carly or steal Michael. When Edward and AJ argued, Jason told them he'd be taking his revenge on them in the way that would hurt them the worst: money, via the docks renovations, which he would bring to an expensive standstill. Alan, in a drug-induced stupor, interjected some babble about holding a family picnic to smooth out disagreements. Jason realised that Alan was stoned, and told Edward and AJ they had no business trying to bring Michael into a house that contains a junkie. After Jason left, Edward and AJ admitted that with Alan hooked on drugs, Jason had leverage against them and that they therefore needed to get Alan clean.
Bobbie paid a visit to the penthouse and learned from Jason that Carly had faked her whole insane episode. Bobbie was furious, but understood Carly's motives. When Robin came home and Jason went upstairs to check on Michael, Bobbie took the opportunity to have a frank discussion with her about taking care of the baby. Robin reassured her that she would take excellent care of Michael, but never try to replace Carly as his mother. Bobbie expressed her confidence in Robin, and how glad she was the Michael would have the chance to know someone with Robin's principles.
Jax and Brenda paid a visit to Robin at the penthouse, where Jax seemed bent on trying to convince Robin to leave Jason. Brenda added her voice to his concern for Robin's safety while she's with Jason, reminding her of Lily and her unborn child. Robin protested all of their points, and wanted to let the matter drop. Just then, however, Jason came home, furious at the way Robin was being blindsided, and told Jax to mind his own business. Jax then brought up the docks renovations and accused Jason of extortion. Jason responded by hinting at brother Jerry's illegal business practices. Brenda and Robin found themselves defending the two men to each other. Meanwhile, Emily arrived in tears over Alan's drug-induced state and tensions were eased. Brenda and Robin agreed not to let Jax and Jason come between them, and Brenda and Jax left. Robin later thanked Jason for backing down from Jax for her, and he promised not to let what he does hurt her ever again.
Brenda re-acquired L&B records and began making plans for the future. She asked Robin to come and work with her there, and Robin agreed. Robin also mentioned that she was thinking of moving into the penthouse, but still had to talk to Jason about it.
Jason received a visit from Monica, one that surprised him. Monica talked to him about his feelings for Michael, and how nothing could ever change them-- and then pointed out that those are the same feelings she has for Jason himself, no matter what. She told him that she wanted to love the man he is now, Jason Morgan, and that she knew Jason Quartermaine was gone. Touched by her words, Jason let her see Michael and told her she could come back anytime.
Robin was glad to hear of Monica's visit, and tried to bring up the possibility of her own move into the penthouse while telling him about her new job with L&B. Jason was happy for Robin, but didn't catch on to what she was getting at and instead talked about how he planned to keep his promise to make Michael's life just how it had been, before Carly shot Tony. Robin was troubled by this, clearly thinking that Michael's life then didn't include her. She told Jason how glad she was that he had Michael to keep him safe, and how she would give up anything to keep things that way. When Jason asked her what she meant by that, she dodged the question.
Robin attended Mac's wedding without Jason, knowing Mac would be displeased if he were to show up. Before she left the penthouse, though, she dropped another hint about splitting her time and things between the cottage and the penthouse-- another hint which Jason missed completely. On the way to the wedding, Robin ran into Nikolas, who agreed to be her escort. As the ceremony began, Mac surprised everyone by proposing to Felicia-- and Felicia surprised Mac by saying yes. Though Kevin and Lucy's wedding was called off, Mac and Felicia did finally wed.
Robin left the wedding for the penthouse, turning up on Jason's doorstep unexpectedly. Jason was thrilled to see her, and convinced Robin to spend the night, saying, "I wish you'd never leave". On several occasions, Robin almost talked to Jason about moving in, but backed down each time. Lucky came by to see Jason and asked him for a job; Jason told him he could wash the cars, for good pay, but promised Luke to keep his son out of the organization. Jason and Robin were surprised to learn that Lucky is living in their old boxcar, and reminisced briefly about going back to those days. The next morning, Robin left the penthouse to meet with Brenda regarding L&B Records, but the two friends were sidetracked when Brenda confessed that she might be pregnant. While calming her friend, Robin commented on how much she'd give to have Jason's baby, mentioning that it wasn't impossible, just risky.
Meanwhile, Detective Taggert stepped up his plans to bring Jason down by informing Monica of the hold he had over Alan, and demanding that she help him bring down Justus and Jason-- or else Alan would be arrested. Monica fought Taggert, claiming she would not betray her son, but Taggert insinuated that she would actually be doing Jason a favor by helping him get out of the organization. WHen Monica told Mac what Taggert was doing, Mac pretended to sympathize with her but actually told Taggert to proceed full speed ahead.
After saying a wistful goodnight over the phone one night soon after, Robin changed her mind and headed over to the penthouse. Once there, she told Jason that she wanted to move in. Jason told her he'd be thrilled to have her there, but was concerned that she would feel like Brenda, and that the penthouse was a prison. Robin told him she knew what she was getting into, and they agreed she would move in the next day. Robin then convinced Jason that they should move into Sonny's old room, telling Jason that it was time to accept that Sonny was never going to live there again. Jason, who never wanted to forget his time there with Sonny, agreed that the time had come for he and Robin to make it their home.
Mac, however, was not so understanding when Robin told him of her move. He accused her of having some sort of death wish, and warned Robin that as police commissioner, he would not hesitate to bring Jason down, if he could. Robin said she understood and left, obviously upset by Mac's reaction but resolute.
When Jason was called down to the police station to bail Mike Corbin out one morning, Robin volunteered to take Michael with her when she went to meet Nikolas for coffee (with Renaldo along, of course). Jason agreed, and brought Mike back to the penthouse. Jason promised Mike that he would always be there to help him out, and Mike apologized for holding Jason responsible for Sonny's actions. Bobbie arrived and expressed concern at Robin's having taken Michael out. Upon Robin and Michael's return, Jason brought out a letter from Carly and sat down with Robin to read it to Michael, as Mike and Bobbie watched-- with Bobbie spouting her usual concern for daughter Caroline's place in Jason's life.
Felicia stopped by the next day to invite Robin and Jason to dinner, in an attempt to make the peace. After some thought, Robin agreed to go and Jason agreed to go with her, though he remained skeptical of Mac ever accepting him. Just before they left the penthouse, Monica stopped by and probed Jason about how well prepared he'd be if Taggert was to come after him. Jason reassured her that he was beyond Taggert's reach.
Things did not go well at what Robin accurately predicted would be "the dinner from hell". Mac was stiff and rude, ordering Georgie and Maxie to stay in the house and away from windows. Felicia and Robin did their best to keep the conversation going, but Mac was a brick wall of silence. Finally, after the girls went upstairs, Mac laid into Robin and Jason about how unsafe the organization makes them, pleading with frist Robin to leave Jason and then with Jason to leave the mob. Jason kept his cool and said nothing, having promised Robin that he wouldn't fight with Mac. Robin stood up to her uncle, though, and she and Jason left on bad terms. After they left, Mac called Taggert and told him to step up their plan to entrap Jason. Meanwhile, back at the penthouse, Robin told Jason one of her favorite sayings: "A ship is safe in harbor, but that's not what ships are made for."
Brenda and Robin convinced Jason to book a new L&B client into Luke's Place. Jason then agreed to buy a motorcycle shop with Mike, who wanted to expand the Recovery Room into that space someday. After getting caught up in some bike repairs, Jason convinced Mike to keep the bike shop open until he decided to expand.
Mac came to see Robin on Stone's birthday, and they spent some time remembering him together. Robin told Mac how desperate and numb she had felt after Stone's death, and how Jason brought her back to life again. Mac agreed to disagree with her about her life with Jason, and to ease up on pressuring her. After leaving the penthouse, however, he encouraged Taggart to step up his investigation and lean harder on Monica.
Jason surprised Robin by remembering Stone's birthday and their two-year Montauk anniversary with a cake and candles. After making near-identical wishes for a long future together, they spoke of their past, and the moment each knew they loved the other. Jason then gave Robin a ring, as Stone had once done. Robin decided to take Stone's ring off (though she would always keep it to remember him by) and place Jason's ring on her left hand where it had been. When Emily stopped by the penthouse several days later (with Nikolas in tow), she mistakenly assumed that Robin and Jason were engaged, but Robin assured her that they weren't. Robin and Emily invited Nikolas to the L&B party at Luke's, and Nikolas agreed to meet them there. Meanwhile, Jason told Justus to go after Taggart, even if it meant Alan being convicted.
At Luke's, the new act was a no-show (due to Veronica's insane plotting) and Ned filled in to save the day, making the evening a big success for L&B. Luke took his leave of Jason, asking him to take care of the club and various friends. Luke also told Jason not to get Lucky involved in the organization, which, he confessed to Mike later, rubbed Jason the wrong way. Under Mike's questioning, Jason admitted that he hoped Michael wouldn't want to work for the organization when he was Lucky's age, because of how hard he found it to protect the people he loved. Finding Justus drunk, Jason had him escorted home. When Monica came by Justus' apartment, looking for dirt, she got more than she expected when he confessed to killing Damian Smith-- and on tape.
Later that evening, as the party ended, Mac took Robin aside and told her that he could see how happy Jason made her, and that he would try to be more accepting in the future. Pleased, Robin thanked him and got ready to leave with Jason. Emily stopped them, needing to talk to Jason for a moment, and Nikolas walked Robin to the car. Once there, Robin asked Nikolas to give Emily a ride home, and he readily agreed before kissing her hand and leaving. In a scene eerily remiscent of Lily's death, Robin walked to the limo, smiling and waving to Jason, who watched her adoringly. Just as she reached for the door handle, however, Jason suddenly bolted towards her, picking her up and throwing them both to the ground as the car exploded.
Robin and Jason survived the explosion unhurt, but Rinaldo died. After having Robin checked out at the hospital, Jason took her home and ran some preliminary plans by Benny. A scared and furious Mac went home to Felicia, admitting to her that despite the evening's near-catastrophe, there was still nothing he could do to change Robin's mind about Jason. The next day, he called Jason in for questioning and was furious when Jason refused to aid the police investigation. Infuriated, Mac informed Jason that the bomb was remote detonated-- meaning that whoever set it off watched Robin walk towards the car and then set the bomb off.
Justus arrived at the police station late and faced Jason's wrath for doing so. Jason questioned Justus' recent behavior, asking him if he had anything to do with the bombing. Though he believed Justus when he said no, Jason pointed out that Justus' personal problems are making hima liability. Justus offered to resign, but Jason told him that wouldn't be necessary as long as he got back in line, and Justus promised to do so. Later, Jason confessed his fears to Robin and told her that he would understand if she left him, blaming himself that she had almost died. Robin reassured him that she wasn't going anywhere, and tried to calm his fears, but Jason remained tense and continued his plans for revenge against Moreno.
Robin went down to the station to give her statement, accompanied by Nikolas. Leaving, they bumped into Moreno, who expressed his condolences to an unsympathetic Robin. Later, Robin admitted to Nikolas that she was afraid of Moreno, and what would happen between him and Jason.
Jason asked Robin if she and Michael would stay put in the penthouse until the situation with Moreno was resolved. Robin agreed, but expressed concern for Michael and his safety. Hesitatingle, she suggested that the baby would perhaps be better off with AJ. Jason didn't see her point of view, and the two argued until an irate Emily arrived with proof that Edward was planning on trying to get Michael again. Emily even offered to testify on Jason's behalf that Michael was better off in the penthouse with Jason, and that the mansion wasn't a good environment for anyone to grow up in. Robin said nothing, and assured Jason that she trusted him to take care of the situation.
Later, Monica stopped by and spoke to Justus about his drunken confession the other night. Justus thanked Monica for handling the situation so well, and for her silence. Monica, still debating whether to turn the tape over to Taggart or not, was embarrassed by his thanks. Robin and Emily decided to bring the park to Michael, since he couldn't go outside, and a game with signs and stuffed animals ensued, with Monica participating. Jason mentioned that Michael was trying to crawl, and Monica guessed that the baby probably just gave up trying and played with his toes instead. Wondering how Monica had got it right, Jason and Robin were startled to learn it was because AJ had done the same thing as a baby.
Alone with Michael, Jason explained to the baby that he might not be coming back. As Robin walked into the room, she was confronted with the sight of Jason loading his gun and getting ready to leave. Although a tearful Robin begged him to stay, Jason insisted that he had to take care of the situation in order for her and Michael to be safe, and left. After Jason was gone, Robin talked to baby Michael, telling him how much she wished she could've kept Jason from being involved in the organization. Just then, AJ stopped by to apologize for Edward's latest custody attempt, causing Robin to doubt whether AJ should be denied access to his own child-- especially if Jason were not to return. In the end, however, she decided to keep Jason's secret.
At Moreno's offices, Jason entered unseen and pointed a gun at Moreno's head, his expression cold and unyielding, full of fury. Moreno begged for his life, but Jason informed him that he wasn't there to kill him, but to offer him a job-- his own. Jason told Moreno that he wanted out of the organization, and he wanted Moreno's help. Moreno agreed to call a meeting and give Jason's plan his support.
Back at the penthouse, Robin was overjoyed at Jason's safe return. When he told her of his plan to quit the organization, she was at first concerned that she had unduly influenced his decision. Jason reassured her that she and Michael were his family, and that they came before business, and Robin was thrilled. Jason later met with Brenda and reassured her that Robin would soon be safe from harm. Not knowing the full details, Brenda was understandable dubious.
Having acquired the tape of Justus' confession, Taggart paid him a visit and demanded he turn over incriminating evidence on Jason. Unbeknownst to either of them, Jason had already cleared his files out of Justus' apartment. Justus offered Taggart something different instead-- incriminating evidence on the Jacks family. Although Taggart at first balked, he accepted the deal and gave Justus back the tape. Later, Justus confronted Jason about the missing files and was shocked and upset to learn that Jason was leaving the organization.
Robin and Jason discussed Carly's return, and Robin asked some questions about what Jason expected their lives to be like when Carly returned. Jason admitted that he hoped the three of them could work something out, but Robin reminded him of how unlikely that was. When she suggested that he and Carly share joint custody of Michael, Jason was unwilling to consider it, and a disappointed Robin agreed that they would have to find another way.
Robin was saddened to learn of Brenda's troubles, and the possibility that her best friend could have a fatal mental disorder. Strong as ever, Robin offered her support to Brenda and to Jax. Jason met with the men of his organization and informed them that he would be retiring. Most were unhappy with the news, but accepted it. Justus and Benny's support seemed to sway some of the other men, and Jason cut all ties with his former business. Bobbie, who stopped by to see Michael, was especially thrilled at the news, but no one was happier than Robin. She and Jason began to make plans for their future, and Jason decided that he would run the bike shop he'd purchased with Mike.
Brenda's car went off a cliff into the ocean, her body (and that of her mother, Veronica) was not found but the Coast Guard assured a devastated Jax that, from the height of the cliff and the condition the vehicle was found in, no one could have survived. As Jax mourned his loss, Robin and Jason made plans for the future-- plans that seemed trivial when Jax brought them the bad news. Robin responded with sorrow and anger at the world that could let such unfair things happen. Jason left to tell Sonny, and Robin went to stay with Uncle Mac, with Bobbie taking care of Michael. Upon returning, Jason told Mike that Sonny had sensed Brenda's death, but that he had promised not to do anything drastic to himself in response. The people of Port Charles gathered for Brenda's memorial service, each mourning her in their own way. Robin continued to suffer deeply from the unexpected loss, seeming almost numb at times.
Mac and Taggert went to Jason's penthouse to question him and Mac told Jason that Moreno was moving in on his territory. Mac then asked Jason how he would retaliate and asked Jason to let him get Robin and Michael out of the line of fire. An angry Robin entered and told Mac that Jason had left the organization. Mac sent Taggert out and he and Robin smoothed things over between them. Mac continued to feel dejected, however, about how his plan to bring down Jason had hurt Jax so deeply.
Robin and Jason continued their search for a new home, and were surprised to discover that Brenda's cottage was already available. Jason felt it would be a good place to live, but Robin worried about the sadness in living somewhere Brenda had so recently been. After some hard thinking, she decided that moving to the cottage would only make her feel closer to Brenda, and the decision to do it was made. Jason made arrangements with the realtor, while Robin said she wanted to clear it with Jax.
Jason stopped by the boxcar to tell Lucky about his retirement, and to offer him a new job at the bike shop. Later, Jason had an unpleasant confrontation with Justus regarding the material he's turned over which had implicated the Jacks family. Later, when Jax stumbled upon Jason and Robin in the cottage, he blasted Jason for having destroyed his family-- and was chagrined to discover that Jason hadn't done anything. Thinking of Brenda, Jax told Jason and Robin she would've wanted them to live in the cottage.
Jason reminisced with Michael about his past in the organization and how he had learned everything from Sonny. Later, he and Robin moved out of the penthouse and headed for Brenda's cottage. As they settled in, Jason helped a sad Robin pack up the rest of Brenda's things. Bobbie arrived, and expressed concern as to how Carly will fit into Jason's new life. Jason sidestepped the issue and told her they would discuss it when Carly got home. Later, Monica expressed hurt that Jason had allowed Bobbie to take care of Michael while he was out of town. Jason informed her that Michael would never step foot in the Quartermaine mansion again. When Alan tried to reconnect with Jason, he was thrown out of the cottage. Monica blamed Alan for ruining the uneasy balance she was working so hard to build with Jason.
Jason started working at the bike shop, offering Lucky a job and a place to live in the apartment above. Mike was thrilled with the news that Jason had left the organization, admitting that he'd tried and failed to find Sonny down in Rio. Robin tried to convince Jason to let the Quartermaines, especially Monica, into Michael's life, but Jason refused, telling her that Alan was still on drugs. Believing him but disturbed at the news, Robin insisted on calling AJ to let him know that Alan was still in trouble. Jason resented her involving him with the Quartermaines, but, at the same time, wouldn't tell Robin what to do and accepted her decision. As Robin left for class and AJ left to confront Alan, Jason received a call letting him know that Carly could receive visitors.
While Robin headed off to new Haven to clear up some registration issues for school, Jason went to Ferncliff to see Carly. Jason told her he had left the organization; Carly's typical response was to whine about how he wouldn't be able, now, to use illegal means to get her free. Jason, of course, promised to do everything in his power to get her out. Under pressure to help Carly maintain her crazy act, however, he did not tell her that he and Robin had moved out of the penthouse and into the cottage together, knowing her reaction was sure to be violent. Back at the bike shop, Mike expressed surprise that Jason empathized so strongly with Carly's situation.
When Letticia was unable to watch Michael, Jason and Robin found themselves in need of a babysitter, as Robin had class and Jason was scheduled to visit Carly. Robin was surprised that Jason expected her to watch the baby, and refused to skip her classes just so Jason could see Carly. The two argued over the situation, and Robin realized that despite everything she has done to hurt other people, Jason feels sorry for Carly. Robin left for class, and Jason arranged for Mike to watch his godson. When Robin returned from school, she found AJ there, and the two of them had a frank talk about what life with Carly back in town would be like. Robin expressed doubts that she would be left standing from the fallout of Carly's vindictiveness, and AJ couldn't say much to assuage her fears.
At Ferncliff, Carly reacted with rage when Jason gave her the news that he, Michael, and Robin were living together in Brenda's cottage. Dr. Evans walked in just as Jason was restraining Carly by the wrists from attacking him, and lied to cover for her. Moved by his actions and aware of the need for discretion, Carly calmed down. Later, after Jason was gone, she told the doctor that she knew Jason loved her, by his actions.
Back home in PC, Mac reminded Jason of Robin's birthday and asked for a permanent truce between the two of them, for Robin's sake. jason agreed, and Felicia told a still dubious Mac what a good thing he'd done. Jason described the Ferncliff visit to Robin, who was angry to hear that Jason had compromised himself and lied for Carly. Jason reassured Robin that Carly would not make his choices for him, and that she, Robin, was the one he loved. He then presented her with her birthday present, a book of fairy tales like the ones Brenda had told him about.
Bobbie asked Jason if she could visit Carly in his place, and he reluctantly agreed. While he was away picking up a spare bike part, Robin took over babysitting Michael from Mike. AJ arrived in a rainstorm, and he offered his friendship to Robin, saying he could imagine what she must be going through with Carly. Robin received a phone call from a neighbor at the cottage about the cellar flooding, and needed to rush home. She reluctantly agreed to let AJ watch Michael until she returned.
Stuck at the cottage due to the storm, Robin called Felicia and asked her for help. Felicia arrived at the cottage and an upset Robin told her that she had made a terrible mistake leaving Michael with AJ, one that would make Jason Angry. Felicia was alarmed and asked Robin if she was afraid of Jason.
Bobbie paid Carly a visit at Ferncliff, and though sparks flew several times throughout their meeting, mother and daughter grew closer than they had been before. Bobbie cautiously broached the topic of Robin, and her place in Jason's heart. Carly refused to believe she had anything to worry about, claiming that one day Jason would wake up and stop loving Robin. Bobbie remained dubious, but Carly asked her: if forced to choose, would Jason choose Robin or Michael? Bobbie reluctantly agreed that Jason would choose his son.
Meanwhile, at the bike shop, AJ first found himself in unfamiliar territory taking care of a cranky Michael. He finally got the hang of it, though, and Michael calmed down. When the baby began to cry again, AJ picked him up-- just as Jason walked in. Enraged, Jason demanded that AJ hand over the baby. AJ explained that Robin had left Michael in his care because of an emergency at the cottage, and pointed out that the fact he hadn't taken off for the Quartermaine mansion showed that he could be trusted with Michael. Jason refused to listen to him, saying that the Quartermaines only wanted to use Michael as a trophy. AJ countered, saying that Jason used Michael as a tool to get back at the Quartermaines, and Jason left, with Michael.
Meanwhile, at the cottage, Robin told Felicia that this was the second time she had betrayed Jason, the first being when she'd asked Sonny to fire him. Felicia told Robin that she had done the right thing, but Robin wasn't reassured. Robin told Felicia how understanding Jason was and said she shouldn't have gone against his wishes. Felicia thought Robin and Jason would be able to work things out and they headed for the garage. After arriving at the garage and not seeing any sign of Michael or AJ, Robin feared AJ had taken the baby to the Quartermaines.
Jason arrived and a frantic Robin confessed all she'd done, telling Jason they should hurry over to the Quartermaines. A cold, icy jason informed her that Michael was with Mike. Felicia tried to mediate between the two of them, to no avail, and left. Robin and Jason fought bitterly, with Jason accusing Robin of betrayal and Robin stating her belief that AJ has a right to see his son. At an impasse, Robin and Jason broke up, Jason telling her that he would be going to stay with Mike. Robin turned to Mac and Felicia for comfort.
Mike gladly welcomed his visitors, but counseled Jason that he had to settle things with Carly before he could salvage his relationship with Robin. Jason, realizing how much he still loved Robin and always would, went to see Carly at Ferncliff and propsed they share joint custody of Michael upon her release-- with Carly and Michael living with Bobbie. Carly became upset and wondered if Jason was going to keep his word about getting her released and was also angry to learn that Robin had left Michael with AJ. Jason said they needed to decide things about the future because AJ was gearing up to make another play for Michael. Before Jason left, Dr. Evans told him and Carly that AJ had tried to visit Carly and asked if either of them had any objections.
Robin went to the garage to try work things out with Jason, but ran into Bobbie instead. Bobbie said she hoped Robin could accept that Carly was a part of Jason's life. Robin said she had accepted that and asked Bobbie if Carly could accept that Jason's life also included Robin. Bobbie and Robin agreed to try and make compromises where Carly was concerned.
At Ferncliff, AJ wanted to visit Carly, but she told Jason and her doctor that she wasn't ready to see him. Later, however, after Jason had left, Carly told the doctor that she had changed her mind. At the Port Charles Grill, Jason violently confronted AJ and warned him to stay away from Carly and Michael. Afterward, Edward congratulated AJ for getting under Jason's skin and thought they would soon have Michael living with them at the mansion.
Monica, Emily, Ned, and Robin were appalled by Edward and AJ's behavior and Robin, disappointed in AJ's motives, accused him of deliberately goading Jason into a fight. After Jason's public act of violence towards AJ, Mac and Felicia worried about Robin's safety, but Robin and Jason made up and reaffirmed their love for one another.
AJ visited Carly and told her that Jason's ability to influence her release had been greatly diminished when he left the organization. AJ then suggested that the Quartermaines might be able to help Carly. Meanwhile, Mac, Felicia, Maxie and Georgie celebrated Halloween with Jason, Robin and Michael.
Jason confronted Carly in Ferncliff and told her that her release was secured, provided he signed the necessary papers-- which he would do, only so long as Carly understood his terms. She would stay with him and Robin in the cottage at first, but then either move in with Bobbie or find a place of her own. She and Jason would then share joint custody of Michael. Carly agreed , of course, and Jason signed the papers. Meanwhile, Bobbie asked Robin if she could give Carly some space when she got home from Ferncliff. Robin good-naturedly agreed, though Bobbie was in effect telling her to stay out of her own house.
Carly rode back into town and into Jason and Robin's lives like a bad wind, determined to strengthen and fully regain her "family", which included Jason but certainly not Robin. She complained incessantly about the cottage, saying that Robin had cost her her "home" (meaning the penthouse) and telling Jason how much she wished he hadn't changed his life so much while she was gone. Under Bobbie's watchful eye, she insincerely expressed her gratitude to Robin for taking care of Michael while she was "away", which Robin wa not fooled by for a minute. Back to her old ways, Carly talked a lot about bonding with Michael but didn't seem to actually want to be around himmuch, though she certainly enjoyed shopping for him.
Carly and Robin were surprised by a visit from AJ. Robin immediately told him to leave, knowing Jason's feelings about AJ being around Michael, who was upstairs. Carly took offense and said that she had a right to visitors, encouraging AJ to stay. He left, and the two women began to fight bitterly. Jason came home in the middle of this, having been alerted by Letticia of AJ's visit. Robin told him that she had asked AJ to leave, knowing Jason's feelings on the matter. Carly promptly lied and accused Robin of hinting around about Michael's paternity to AJ, which she hadn't done. Jason, however, did not stand up for Robin and instead spoke to the two women as if they were children, telling them he wanted this fight "settled" for Michael's sake. Carly sulked, but Robin walked out of the room, upset with Jason's dismissal.
Robin told Jason that she was going on a school trip to Italy for a few weeks. Jason questioned Robin, who admitted she was really going away because of Carly. Jason took Robin to the airport and they shared an emotional goodbye, with Jason making Robin promise to come back to him. Robin told him she would come back when Carly was out of the cottage. Carly, thrilled over the turn of events, became nervous about handling Michael on her own, but quickly pulled herself together. Jason returned from the airport and Carly realized she would have to make the most of her time with Jason while Robin was gone. She "faked" an ankle injury and then cajoled Jason into spending more time with her, hanging out at the cottage and waiting on her whims. When Robin called from Rome and left a number where Jason could reach her, Carly purposely "lost" the message, keeping them from talking. Robin contacted Jason once again, however, and Carly was caught out in her deception. Though Jason expressed some annoyance with her trick, he certainly didn't get mad at her in any lasting sense, however, chalking the prank down to "Carly acting stupid".
Jax, stopping by the cottage to retrieve something of Brenda's, stumbled upon Carly and Jason in what appeared to be a compromising situation, but was in fact only a creation of Carly's. Angry, Jax berated Jason, saying how Brenda had grown to trust that Jason truly loved Robin but must have been mistaken. Carly pretended to be concerned at Jax's assumptions, but Jason dismissed them completely.
Carly resorted to all sorts of interesting tricks to keep Jason close to her. She asked for, and received, an expensive and gaudy sable coat which she wore about town like a trophy. She cajoled Jason into carrying her about the cottage, and out to a night at Jake's. There, she attempted to make Jason jealous by dancing seductively with another man, but he was unmoved, telling her that he was perfectly happy with Robin and not interested. Carly also used every opportunity she could to throw AJ into the mix, essentially dangling him in front of Jason as a threat. Once again, Jason refused to be moved by her machinations.
Robin walked in the door of the cottage to Jason playful carrying Carly down the stairs. Despite this huge provocation, Robin kept her calm and, like Jason, refused to be baited by Carly. Her anger, however, was fairly evident. Any attempts to straighten this situation out, however, were soon cut short when Jason received a phone call saying that Sonny needed his help. Leaving right away, he asked Robin and Carly to call a truce while he was gone, as always, for Michael's sake. Jason found Sonny despondent and depressed, and tried to convince him to come back to Port Charles.
Robin attended an L&B Showcase at Luke's, along with Felicia and many others of Port Charles' finest. Mac, held up at work, arrived late. As he and Robin were greeting each other, a gun was thrust through the window of the club and began firing. Mac dove to protect Robin and took a bullet himself. Alan Quartermaine's quick thinking saved Mac's life, and he was rushed to the hospital, still in critical condition. Robin called Carly and told her to stay in the house with Michael, and do what Johnny told her to. Carly, panicked, wanted to call Jason but Robin told her it was impossible at the time. Finally Carly agreed and calmed down, and Robin raced to the hospital.
Mac pulled through, and was surrounded by those he loved: Felicia, Maxie, Georgie, and Robin. Jason, returning from Sonny's side, realized that the shooting was Moreno's doing and decided his family would be better off living in the penthouse again, for the time being. Carly, thrilled, returned like the woman of the manor, despite Jason's warning that this situation was temporary. Robin was not so happy, but understood the necessity. She spoke to Jax of her concerns, who reminded her that she could walk away from this life of danger any time. Robin argued, but of course understood that Jax was speaking out of concern for her.
At the hospital, a pensive Robin shared a Christmas celbration with Mac, Felicia, and the girls. Carly convinced Jason to take Michael to the hospital for the annual reading of the Christmas tale. Jason was bothered to see Edward dressed up as Santa Claus and Alan reading the tale, but stayed for Michael's sake. Robin joined them there, much to Carly's chagrin.
Jason convinced Sonny to return to Port Charles, and Robin welcomed him back gratefully, thinking Sonny's presence would somehow help her situation with Jason. At first, it seemed possible. Carly and Michael went to live at the brownstone with Bobbie, but Carly still had a few tricks up her sleeve. She called Jason over, under the pretence that Michael needed him, and of course Jason went running. Robin was annoyed and tried to point out that Carly was simply manipulating him through Michael, but Jason wasn't much interested in hearing her.
Robin went to Felicia for advice. Although Felicia passed no judgement on Robin's situation, she agreed that a decision about her future with Jason needed to be made and assured her that whatever that decision was, Robin would feel better after it was done. Sonny, for his part, reassured Robin that Jason loved her, but Robin knew that loving her wasn't enough, not when she was forced to envision a future of always coming in second place to Michael and Carly.
The final straw came when Jason informed Robin that he would be moving in with Michael and Carly, "until Michael was old enough to understand his parents living apart". Robin knew that day was far, far in the future, possibly never, and she also knew that whatever hope she had held for a future with Jason had just disappeared. Her heart broken but her resolve strong, she nroke up with Jason. Sadly, for his part, he expressed his concern and love for Robin but did not argue her decision, knowing that he had left her no choice.
Robin remained worried about Jason, however, and went to see Carly in a futile attempt to talk some sense into her. Robin urged Carly not to use Michael to control Jason, but Carly, feeling confident, blasted Robin for being the one to hurt him. The conversation was ugly, as Robin could have expected it to be, and Carly certainly took no mercy on Robin's feelings, flaunting Michael and staking her claim on a future at Jason's side. Somewhat despondent, Robin left, having made another huge decision. She asked AJ to meet her, and finally told him the truth: that Michael was his son.
AJ was, at first, disbelieving, thinking Robin was simply looking for revenge against Carly. He quickly became convinced, however, and then angry at Robin for not telling him sooner. He left and confronted Carly, who desperately tried to deny his accusations. Meanwhile, Robin went to Jason and told him what she had done. Jason was shocked, and rushed off to find Carly and Michael. When he arrived, AJ repeated his accusations and expressed his shock that his brother had betrayaed him that way, but Jason refused to admit to anything. Later, Jason counseled Carly that they would have to be very careful and fight a long legal battle to keep Michael, and made her promise to not o anything stupid. Though she promised, we all know how likely she is to stick to that-- in the future, a war is sure to ensue between AJ, Carly, and Jason, with Michael's fate in their hands.
Robin decided that the time had come for her to leave Port Charles and return to her studies in Paris. She said her goodbyes to Sonny, who was somewhat judgemental of her decision to tell AJ the truth, seeing it as a betrayal of Jason. Robin, obviously hurt by his attitude, tried to explain her actions, but in the end the two long-time friends simply left things as they were and said goodbye. She also spoke to Jax, and they shared memories of happier days with Brenda, promising to keep in touch. Mac and Felicia were very understanding of her decision, and proud of the choices she had made. Though they would miss her, they were glad she had decided to continue her education and her life.
When all goodbyes were said and done, Robin made one last stop-- to the bridge. Jason found her there, and they shared a somewhat bitter goodbye.
Robin: I just came here to say goodbye. So much happened in this place. I just had to see it one last time before I let it go. Do you remember that night--
Jason: I remember everything, Robin. That was my life-- what I learned from Sonny, and loving you. Til Michael.
Robin: I didn't do it to take Michael away from you. You know that. You know me.
Jason: It's just like after the accident. When I woke up, you were the first person I ever saw. But I didn't know you. And I don't now. I came to say good-bye, too. You taught me that, just like you taught me to love. You gave me everything good I have inside. And now I have it to give to Michael. I will always owe you for that.
Robin: You gave me a lot, too.
Jason: And I never wanted you to go before. But I do now. It'll be much easier when you're in Paris. And it'll be a lot easier if I never see your face again.
